Outback living

The Outback Classroom programme, catering for children between the ages of 10 and 18, is a learning camp for school groups organised by Undara

Experience in Australia. Focused around the Undara Lava Tubes in tropical Savannah woodlands, the programme offers a range of 15 different formal learning activities, supervised by Savannah Guides, which aim to challenge physical and mental abilities, boost imagination and build self confidence.

The activities are available at four different levels of ability and include English language learning for international students. Students are encouraged to think laterally, interact with others, communicate meaningfully and make discoveries about the surrounding ecology.

Students can camp out in the Swags Tent Village, which consists of permanent tents, or the Wilderness Lodge provides dormitory accommodation. All camp accommodation has linen, hot water and laundry facilities and food is available through the lodge's restaurant.

Other facilities at the lodge include a swimming pool, bush walking tracks and evening campfire activities.

Musical style

The three year full-time BA in Popular and World Musics offered by the University of Leeds in the UK focuses on popular music of all

kinds - from pop to rock, reggae to country and soul to rap - as well as musical expression from cultures around the world. Students are encouraged to pursue their own particular interests from a broad musical experience.

The first year of the course is based at the Leeds campus, in conjunction with the BA Music course, in order to give students the broad knowledge, skills and understanding from which to develop specialisms later on. The second and third years are based at the Bretton Hall campus, where there are dedicated rehearsal spaces, recording studios, music technology facilities and specialist library collections. However, students are also able to choose from modules and electives from the BA Music and other programmes available at the Leeds campus.

Students are able to develop specialisms in areas such as composition, performance, music technology and aesthetics and criticism as well as studying a range of core subjects such as music in history and culture.
