UK summer schools
Offering a different experience to the summer language programmes offered at language schools throughout the UK, many independent high schools now open their doors to international students during the summer months. For some schools, this is a way of introducing prospective new students to academic life in the mainstream school, while also making good use of extensive academic and sporting facilities that may otherwise lie unused during the summer.
Points of difference between summer programmes include the provision of intensive sports coaching, the availability of dormitory on-campus accommodation as well as the presence of local children attending the course as an activity camp. Some courses also incorporate an academic component for students.
