• There were noticeably fewer American students studying at French language schools in 2008, just three per cent compared with 12.6 per cent in 2007. Western Europeans, however, continue to monopolise the marketplace seven of the top ten nationalities hailed from this world region in 2008 with the Swiss leading the way with a 21 per cent share.
• Average length of stay was down from 5.6 weeks to just 2.7 weeks. |

• Just five per cent of students recruited came via local bookings in 2008, compared with 21 per cent previously. Agent usage, however, increased this year, up 10 percentage points to 55 per cent. Twenty-three per cent of all new business sourced stemmed from the Internet.
• There was a marked increase in the number of 16-to-18 year olds studying in France, up from 13 per cent in 2007 to 50 per cent.
