|• Students learning French at a language school in France were noticeably older than those profiled in our Status Survey last year with the greatest number of students falling into the 25-to-30 years age bracket. Last year, the largest group of students was aged between 16 and 18 years.
• In our previous survey, German students made up the largest nationality group (nine per cent of the total) while this year, this nationality failed to register in the top 10 nationalities. Instead, the top nationality this year was Swiss (14 per cent of the total) with Japanese students in second position (up from seven per cent in our survey last year to 11 per cent this year).
• Study travel advisors accounted for 47 per cent of student numbers at French language schools in 2010, down from the 60 per cent recorded previously. Agency costs accounted for just 23 per cent of the marketing budget however, making them a cost effective tool for recruiting new students.
