| • Although four fewer Spanish schools took part in our survey this year, the overall average length of stay was up (from three to 4.9 weeks) and consequently the volume of students represented by our survey participants also increased.
• The number of bookings sourced via an agency dipped slightly on last year’s figure of 49 per cent down to 43 per cent this year. Internet bookings picked up the slack, with this source of enrolments up from 16 per cent to 24 per cent.
• In terms of nationality profiles at Spanish schools, the main change this year was that there were far more Americans! Up from third position last year to first place this year; almost a quarter of all students at the 14 schools in our survey were American.
• There were also far more 19-to-24 year olds, which suggests that American college groups were more numerous in Spain in 2008. Just over 39 per cent of all students were in this age category, up from 25 per cent last year (see LTM, November 2009, page 80).
