October 30, 2013

The UK’s Kingston University has announced that its Distance Learning MBA (DLMBA) programme – launched in conjunction with the international education provider Study Group – has received official accreditation from the Association of MBAS (AMBA).

Professor Julius Weinberg, Vice-Chancellor at Kingston University and James Pitman, Managing Director of Higher Education (UK and Europe) at Study Group the official launch of the DLMBA in May.

The three-year course, designed to allow flexibility of study for internationals as well as domestic students, officially launched in May and will receive its first intake of students in January next year.

The university works with senior academics at top institutions worldwide to continuously update the DLMBA, it said in a statement. Chris Bristow, Director of Graduate Management Programmes and Corporate Learning, added, “AMBA accreditation of the DLMBA programme is an important milestone... [It] joins our full-time and Executive MBA programmes and completes a portfolio designed to meet the needs of a dynamic global workforce. Accreditation is also a mark of quality and recognition that the Kingston suite of MBA programmes is one of the top 200 accredited by MBA worldwide.”

The DLMBA is priced at £16,000 (US$25,708) compared to £18,000 (US$29,824) for the full-time MBA, with the aim of drawing students in from across the globe. James Pitman, Managing Director of Higher Education (UK and Europe) at Study Group, said, “The distance learning students get the same MBA experience and content, just in a different way. Gone are the days when global businesses could afford to hold lots of face-to-face meetings, so as a preparation for the way business is done in the 21st century, this is probably the best way to learn.”

A spokesman for Study Group commented that the recruitment drive for the January intake is going strong, with the team dedicating marketing resources to Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The university also runs an MBA course in Moscow which is the best performing MBA in Russia in terms of recruitment numbers, he added, so strong interest in the distance learning model from this country is also expected.
