International House Dublin & Cork has developed a new course for junior students for 2014, incorporating web-based e-portfolios and other digital learning, as well as a new IH Digital Hub activity programme.

A new focus on digital learning and technology in IH Dublin's summer courses

Taking place at both the Dublin and Cork junior centres, the more challenging ‘Serious Summer Fun’ programme has been developed following feedback from students and agents, and in response to a steady improvement in the English language level of young learners at the centres, said Aoife Govern, Marketing Director.

“We are delighted to launch our new ‘Serious Summer Fun’ Digital Programme at our Junior Summer Programmes in Dublin & Cork this year. The new programme has taken over a year to develop and has been carefully crafted by our Education Department along with digital experts in the fields of media and journalism,” said Govern.

She continued, “Highlights include creation of student e-portfolios, learning to develop a website, creating and editing videos for the weekly news bulletin and creating and contributing to the school blog. The focal point, as always, will continue to be on providing our students with meaningful and relevant language practice which will give them the skills they need for future study or employment,” she said.

The e-portfolios will allow students to upload their work and share with friends and family at home.

As well as the content of the classes, the IH Digital Hub activity programme will form part of the afternoon activity schedule, and will include learning to develop a website, creating and editing videos and contributing to the blog and newsletter.
