Global provider Study Group is expanding its partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in the UK, with the aim of a three-fold increase in non-EU share of the student population.

The new agreement between the two parties, who have been working together on pathway provision since 2008, covers the delivery of foundation and International Year One courses through Liverpool Business School, new articulations onto engineering degrees and an English for Graduate Study course designed for students that have the academic qualifications, but not the language skills required for UK university study.

Currently around five per cent of the approximately 24,000 students enrolled at LJMU are from outside the EU.

Dr Edward Harcourt, LJMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, External Engagement, said, “A strong relationship with Study Group will be essential to achieving our targeted increase in non-EU international student numbers. Our new campus will be in the heart of the city, which will make LJMU an even more compelling study proposition and we’re looking forward to promoting the university to international students all over the world with Study Group.”

LJMU has also confirmed that Study Group’s International Study Centre (ISC) will move to its city centre campus when the construction project is completed in 2017.

James Pitman, Managing Director, Higher Education UK & Europe, said, “Driven by a senior management team with extensive experience in international education, LJMU offers a modern study experience based on almost 200 years of academic excellence that combines real world work experience with undergraduate and postgraduate study. Study Group’s global recruitment footprint means we’re well placed to help LJMU secure a diverse and high-quality international student body.”

As well as pathway programmes in seven countries, Study Group also operates vocational colleges, the Bellerbys College chain of international schools and the Embassy English brand of language courses.
