Launched earlier this year, QALEN was established as a forum for language school accreditation bodies worldwide, aiming to operate alongside counterpart global agency and language school bodies in driving standards in the study travel industry.

In a statement, QALEN said, “With Accreditation UK becoming the newest signatory to the Quality Assurance in Language Education Network (QALEN) memorandum of understanding, QALEN now represents many of the world’s leading providers in language teaching.”

CEO of NEAS in Australia, Mark Raven, said, “Over 1,000 ELT centres are represented through the membership of the QALEN network, which includes providers based in the United States, Australia, Malta, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.”

Liz McLaren, Manager of Accreditation UK, commented, “I am looking forward to revisiting some of the discussions started at the International Symposium we hosted in 2011, especially those around teacher qualifications and evaluation of teaching. Opportunities to compare inspection criteria or procedures and share good practice are always welcome.”

Membership of Qalen involves a memorandum of understanding between all parties whereby the signatories agree to cooperate and recognise one another’s processes, principles, standards and activities.

QALEN now comprises founding members NEAS (international), Feltom (Malta), ACCET (USA) and English New Zealand,  along with UK-based ABLS Accreditation, which joined earlier this year, and Accreditation UK.
