Gwea has merged with Iaewep to form WYSE Work Abroad Association. What does this mean for members?
WYSE Work Abroad Association is a united membership of Gwea and Iaewep, thus a stronger voice representing organisations offering work abroad placements. WYSE Work Abroad will continue to develop the work of the founding associations, with particular emphasis on trade and networking opportunities for members; advocacy lobbying governments for appropriate regulation; and research & statistics in the form of industry surveys.
What does the association hope to achieve during the next year?
Within the next year, WYSE Work Abroad will publish the first update to the International Standards for Work Experience Programmes, which is a manual of guidelines for organisations offering work experience programmes. This is a brilliant document for organisations that are setting up work experience programmes, as it provides standards and procedures to be followed in the administration of such work experience programmes. WYSE Work Abroad will also seek to encourage the establishment of policies and effective regulation to enhance the world of youth mobility via work abroad programmes.
What are your plans for the upcoming year to help grow this market sector?
The association will organise the Work Experience Travel Market, which is a trade forum for organisations offering work abroad placements, on the 15-17 March 2007 in Riga, Latvia. WYSE Work Abroad is planning to organise a trade mission to targeted market areas, which will serve to increase the scope of representation of the association and its members and increase the involvement of dynamic work experience organisations from emerging markets. Other areas of focus during the year will be advocacy; WYSE Work Abroad will continue to work with governments on the issue of appropriate industry regulation which safeguards the interest of the state, the sending and receiving organisations and the participant. We will also collect information and statistics about the latest trends in the industry of work experience programmes in the form of yearly member surveys.
