“A 2011 study that aimed to track the trends and challenges of student mobility into and out of Europe over a nine year period has found that Europe attracted more degree seeking students than any other world region. The Mapping Mobility in European Higher Education Area report found that 50.9 per cent of the world’s mobile students studied in the “Europe 32” comprising 27 EU member states, the four EFTA countries and Turkey in 2006/07. And from 1998/99 to 2006/07 this region grew its international student population by well over 50 per cent. Nationalities from outside of the Europe 32 drove this growth in international students, representing 58 per cent of the total. The study, produced for the European Commission, had some more laudable goals, namely to raise levels of mobility by identifying potential obstacles that may deter students and to improve the way in which mobility data is collected.”
